Bio
I have lived in Brazil, Mexico, and Japan. Each have impacted me in different way; I am an amalgamation of these cultures. My goal is to transform my passion for painting into a career. I have been painting for a few years now. I studied under Professor Mary Vernon of SMU and Mrs. Zahra Jahanyfard. Mission Statement
I want to paint when I have the least drive to do so. I want to paint during my free time. I want to paint when I am frustrated and joyous. I want to make painting my passion, so I will paint, paint, and paint some more. |
Quote:
“If you hear a voice within you saying, ‘You are not a painter,’ then by all means paint, boy, and that voice will be silenced.”
~ Vincent Van Gogh
Topic Proposal: Painting
There is one thing I am truly interested in doing this year; it is my sole motivation. Art, painting, fine arts, studio art- there are many names- is my topic. Painting has become a passion of mine, and I see it as my mission to pursue it. I see this career as a foundation where I plan to build my future. It may not be my final destination, but it will be my starting line.
Art is something I have always been interested in, but it was only recently that it grew to become something more. I have always wanted to follow a passion; it is what propels me towards my future. That is why throughout my life I have sought out what brings me fulfillment; that is why I sought out painting. Art has always been something I can fall back to. It challenges me to improve, but it rarely brings me stress. ISM, last year, is what allowed me to gain an understanding of how important painting is to me. Last year I worked with Ms. Vernon, and, thanks to her mentorship, I developed a passion for painting. It has become part of my identity; it compels me to challenge myself and to strive for improvement. Last year in ISM I was able to drastically improve as a painter. I learned to paint quickly and purposefully; my confidence has soared. My plan is to use this newfound purpose and confidence to grow and better my skills. My main goal this year is to paint consistently; to make painting a hobby. I have been painting since the beginning of high school, and after three years painting I believe I am a competent painter. There is a great deal left to learn, so I would not claim to be good. However, I am capable of exploring and developing myself; it is what I did last year.
The beginning of last year was a struggle for me. I did not, at first, have the necessary skills to succeed, but I was determined. My drive guided me towards improvement, which allowed me to adapt to my situation and focused on finding ways to succeed. My constant effort to improve was reflected in the hours I spent every few nights practicing my speech. I also began seeking criticism to improve my writing; my coachable attitude allowed me take the critiques and find ways to best use them. My drive allowed me to become a much better writer and public speaker. Now I see myself as an example to other students of what ISM can do, and of what is needed to best use the opportunities given by the course. My determination also allowed me to improve my artistic abilities. After painting one hundred paintings in ten days, as my mentor suggested, I learned to paint quickly, yet confidently, which provided me with the necessary skills to display a painting in an art show. This was only possible because of my drive, adaptability, and coachability. These qualities allow me to gain success and improve massively when needed. More importantly, though, my passion is what created these qualities; my desire to find something that truly brings me joy and fulfillment pushed and will continue to push me towards something I truly love, art.
