Final Product Proposal and Calendar
Introduction and Statement of Purpose:
The purpose of this project is twofold. The first being to learn more about business. We hope to find what it means to make a career in the arts and Frisco, and how to effectively market for ourselves in the real world. We hope to further explore the “ins” and “outs” of marketing, and further educate ourselves in regards to the business aspect of a career in the art world. The second being to raise awareness of the arts throughout the Frisco community.
Pursuing a career in the art world, through the eyes of many, can be described as nothing else but “scary” or “reckless”. We would like to utilize this project to show people that it is achievable, and more than anything, it is practical. To do this effectively, we would need to find a way to utilize successful marketing techniques, all while incorporating creativity into our advertisement. We hope to show people why and how to successfully pursue a career in the art world if it is your passion. Artists deal with the community around them. Moreover, they brand themselves online and in person through networking. We want to learn of how artists interact with their community to establish their presence. By reaching out to individuals involved in the art world we will gain a better grasp of how to interact with these individuals. The idea here would be to foster these skills; their cultivation will be a foundation, as well as prove to the community that a career in the art world is a more than tangible option as a career through hard work and passion.
Alongside exploring the business and marketing aspects of the real world application of art, we hope to utilize this project to further educate and raise awareness among the Frisco community, in regards to the amazing opportunities arts present. We would be able to give back to the community, all while exploring the marketing aspect of creative business. We intend to be exposed to the most effective methods of persuasion, and hope to learn more about marketing as a whole. The utilization of this platform of advertisement is key, especially in today's society with the major advancements in technology. Through creating a successful advertisement, we hope to open the eyes of the Frisco community. People see a career in art as intimidating. Most shy away because it seems impossible to succeed in. However, that should not be the case; people should not be afraid to do what they enjoy. We desire to show others that thriving in art is possible. By illustrating how the world of art works, we will be able to introduce these individuals to the enticing world of art. Our goal is for this video to encourage people to pursue their passions.
Above all, we are both very excited to see the outcome of this project. If all goes according to plan, this project will be very beneficial for both the community in regards to raising awareness, and us as individuals to further explore the real world applications to a career in the art world and the business aspect of pursuing a career in this field.
Review of Skill and Research:
Admittedly, this project will not test our artistic abilities; however, that is not necessarily what we seek. Our hope is that the production of this video will test our networking abilities. Networking is constantly reiterated as an extremely important professional skill in the real world, and this project will force us to act upon this necessity and grow. The process of reaching out to individuals in the arts and interview them will challenge us to take more initiative. Additionally, it will encourage us to develop better social skills and help us to better understand the way to use our various contacts more efficiently.
Also, the process of making this video will undoubtedly test our organizational skills, which of late have been lacking. Our goal is to grow and improve the way we manage our tasks and time. This project will challenge us to keep track of a fast paced calendar; it will force us to take initiative to get ahead of what needs to be accomplished. That will help me develop these skills in order to better prepare ourselves for the future.
A key component of this project will include the utilization of effective persuasion; that is where one of our Original Works comes in. One of the group members focused Original Work around identifying and applying persuasive techniques in a creative aspect. We will be able to use that “cheat sheet” in order to successfully persuade our audience. The key of this project is to create an information/advocacy video, all while utilizing persuasive techniques in a creative aspect for effective advertisement.

Step 5: Reach out to someone (or a group of individuals) who would be open to assisting Luiz and Jake in the video editing/production process.

Step 10: Work alongside individuals who are video producing/editing to help in any way possible.
Step 11: Reflect upon final draft of video and approval from both Jake and Luiz.

Materials:
For the successful execution of the final draft of this project, we will need to utilize a camera (for both interviews and the filming of background footage), a laptop with video editing software, and individuals to assist with the video production itself. Throughout the actual process, both ISM students will need to keep a notebook or folder and a writing utensil to take detailed notes of the interviews. In addition, Luiz and Jake will need some sort of audio recording software to record narration of statistics of the arts.
At the moment, Jake already has a camera that both Luiz and him will use to record the interviews. Both individuals will be responsible for providing their own note taking devices for the interviews. Luiz will be responsible for finding an individual who will help with the video editing process.
Conclusions:
Through the success of this product, there will be two major outcomes: The raising awareness of the arts and finding an outlet for us to share their passion in a different light will be the first. By spreading the message of art, the project will encourage participation. We want people to feel welcomed into this world; we want them to pursue their loves and interests without fear. The second outcome will be building a foundation for both of us in the business of art and music to continue to grow upon. Being an artist or musician is not just about creating art; our final product will expose us to this aspect of the professions. Moreover, the process will teach us more about networking, interviewing, and effective marketing. These skills will be undoubtedly beneficial in any career. The product itself will be useful to those in the arts community of Frisco to raise awareness of the programs available; it will motivate others to possibly join the community.

Original Work
Original Work Proposal: Purpose in Art
I have never created art with true purpose. I have not had message to send; I had no goal. However, to create meaningful art an artist must have purpose. That is why I would like to apply for a few art shows. I desire to know if I have the ability to do so; I want to give myself a goal. The work itself would be the paintings alongside a portfolio documenting the process of finding out about the show and applying to it. I want it to be reminiscent of my final product last year. It would be a sort of statement: if my original work is at the same calibre as my final product of the year before, than my final product for this year will be even more ambitious.
My first step will be to find various shows to apply for. To find these, I plan on asking my mentor and art teachers for shows opportunities. Once I find shows to apply for I plan to pick the best paintings for them, and apply. Of course, plan on documenting the process; this will be with a portfolio. I will discuss how I found about each show; most of which I am learning through my mentor and online searches. Next I will write why I am interested in them and what I hope to get out of each show. In this section, I hope to focus on what each shows require of me and the benefits of applying. Of course, I will showcase how to apply as well. This will be a short section on with the instructions of each show, and what I did to apply. Finally, I plan on showing my documentation and writing a reflection. In the reflection I will highlight my frustrations and what each show taught me about art as a while.
I have doubt. In a sense, I fear my capabilities will not be enough; of course, the only way to discover if I am qualified to be an artist is by trying. I need to take initiative and pour myself into the field if I want to test my abilities. My hope with this original work is to challenge myself and to see where my progress is. I want to know where I am at; I want to find my flaws. Once I establish these flaws exist, I can work on improving them. It will not just be a project; it will be entirely my own. There is also the excitement of pursuing my own goal. It feels like a new phase in my journey as a painter, not just as a student, but also as a creator.
Admittedly, the work would not be incredibly useful to anyone but myself. Nevertheless, I see it as groundwork. Art is all about improvement; this will serve as a great way to address my weaknesses and strengths. Knowing where I am in this journey, knowing the progress I have made, will be incredibly beneficial as I prepare myself for college. Last year I saw the power challenge can have on me; I want to replicate it. The urge to grow and advance as an artist propels me to tackle the unknown; I see it as the best, only way to do so.
